Starfleet Command 3 Preview
While surfing at PC.IGN, it would seem that they have a preview of Starfleet Command 3, the Star Trek strategy game developed by Taldren and published by Activision. Here’s a slice:
Each campaign consists of a bout 12 pass/fail scenarios (kill Klingons and save the distressed damsel or the Klingons will kill you and steal that girl only to eat her with a helping of live gagh). Additionally, selected by way of the navigational hex grid that acts as a kind of hub between missions (the universe to players when not in system or fighting), there are more random missions that can be undertaken. These are either optional or forced upon noble captains due to careless maneuvering into an occupied and hostile zone. I’d like to have seen the 3-dimensional cubical overlay we’ve been privy to in a few episodes, like the end of Conspiracy just before alien nest boy got his head exploded in an untimely fashion, but the hex grid is far more familiar to the tabletop players, not to mention those of the earlier games. It also likely isn’t as difficult to manage and view as a 3-dimensional model would be.
