Planet of the Apes 2 Update

The future of the next “Planet of the Apes” is in limbo.
Producer Richard Zanuck reveals that, though his blockbuster of 2001 has brought in some $380 million worldwide, 20th Century Fox has yet to decide when — or if — it will proceed with its follow-up.

“The studio made a lot of money on the picture, but because the budget was so high, it’s in no hurry to do another,” he says.

“Apes” cost just a little over $100 million — modest by today’s standards for major studio adventure yarns that require extensive special effects. However, Zanuck says of the sequel, “It could be a couple of years.” Or not at all. Source
