Dynamic Forces to Collect Chaykin’s American Flagg!

Dynamic Forces has announced that it will collect Howard Chaykin’s groundbreaking series from the 1980s, American Flagg!, in a series of definitive editions. The first volume - collecting the first six issues of the series, as well as new art and materials from the creator - is scheduled for a late June or early July release.

Originally published in 1983 by First Comics - and running through the early ’90s - American Flagg! helped set the tone for more mature comics work, and remains a vital part of comicdom’s history.

In American Flagg!, much of humanity (with the help of the totalitarian government/corporate conglomerate called the Plex) has migrated to Mars and the Moon, leaving those left on Earth to survive nuclear combat, plague, food riots, a banking-system meltdown, and much more. Fast-forward to 2031, when Reuben Flagg - an out-of-work actor raised on Mars - takes a job enforcing the law in 21st century Chicago as a Plexus Ranger. Raised on stories of the way Earth used to be like, Flagg is disgusted by what he discovers in Chicago - and, in the tradition of the Texas Rangers of old, becomes hellbent on bringing some justice to humanity’s homeworld . . . by any means necessary!

“I know this is a dream come true for all comic book fans, myself included,” said Dynamic Forces President Nick Barrucci. “We are so pleased to be working with Howard [Chaykin] on this project that for once, words truly fail me.”

“I can’t convey how happy I am to have American Flagg! back in print,” added Chaykin. “This stuff was watershed work for me, and for my place in the industry. And as for the content, don’t say I didn’t warn you - or, as it says in American Flagg!, ‘The future is just like the present, only later, of course - and more so.’”
