Graphical reboot for World of Warcraft?

A new graphics engine for World of Warcraft is likely in the near future. World of Warcraft producer J. Allen Brack says it is likely that World of Warcraft will receive a graphical overhaul. "Will we need a graphical update from the ground up at some point? Yep, probably," he told Eurogamer.

Brack explained a complete overhaul of the graphics engine was considered for the forthcoming Lich King expansion but Blizzard decided to wait for a later update.

However the producer explained that such an update isn’t certain, many MMO gamers don’t always take advantage of graphical updates. "A lot of people continued to play with the original client, because it was faster, or they preferred it, or were just used to it or whatever," he continued. "And so for me as a game developer, the idea that we would spend so much time and energy on something and have people go, ‘meh, that’s not really for me,’ that’s not very exciting."
