"WALL-E" Takes $62.5 million in Debut Weekend; Panda’s Kung Fu is Still Strong
On its debut weekend, Disney/Pixar’s WALL-E took the top spot in the weekend box office race with an estimated $62.5 million in ticket sales. Analysts had expected an opening in the $50-60 million range.
The results are tied with Monsters, Inc. to be Pixar’s third biggest opening, sitting right behind The Incredibles ($70.5 million in its opening weekend) and Finding Nemo ($70.2 million).
DreamWorks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda also showed continuing strength at the box office, taking the #4 spot with a $11.7 million take, bringing its domestic total to $179.3 million.
