EA Announces Trivial Pursuit For Next-Gen Consoles, Mobile

EA has announced that for the 25th anniversary of Trivial Pursuit, our favorite quiz board game, EA will be releasing the game for play online on the next-gen consoles. Nvidia launches GTX 295 and GTX 285

Dual GPU GTX 295 is finally a reality as Nvidia has given the needed official acknowledgement. Two GTX 200 GPUs stuck together make this beast world’s faster dual GPU card. The specs are no surprise here as it is based on 55nm, DirectX 10, internal SLI with 1792MB of DDR3 memory, 480 processor cores and features HDMI and dual link DVI.

Nvidia also announced GTX 285 which is claimed to be the most powerful single GPU with 30% more performance. This one has 1GB of DDR3 memory, 240 processor cores and support for DirectX 10, HDMI and dual link DVI.

GTX 295 is said to be available right now for $499 and GTX 285 will be available from January 15 at a price of $399.

Expect Office 2007’s ‘Ribbon’ UI to permeate Windows 7, Microsoft says

New Eureka Cast Member Creates Sparks for Sheriff Carter

Actress Jamie Ray Newman (”Veronica Mars,” “Heroes”) joins the SCI FI Channel’s hit series “Eureka” when the second-half of the third season returns this summer.

Newman will portray Dr. Tess Fontana, a new brain-wiz at Global Dynamics.

Braga Talks About “Flash Forward”

On Slice of SciFi #190, we brought you news that Robert J. Sawyer’s novel, “Flash Foward” was being made into a potential television series for ABC.

The series is being billed as a companion piece to “Lost” for the alphabet network.

One of the producers for the pilot and potential series is long-time “Star Trek” producer and writer, Brannon Braga. During a recent interview with SciFi Wire, Braga shared a bit what fans can expect to see from the series.

In “Flash Forward” an experiment causes the entire world to flash into the future for two minutes, with everyone getting a glimpse of what’s to come. Braga says that the premise can be made into a long-term one, along the lines of Fox’s “24? with each season representing a new flash forward.

“Yeah, the structure’s not dissimilar from ‘24? [on which Braga is a co-executive producer], and we want to reset the show at the end of each year, where we’ll do another flash forward at the end of the first season, and then potentially another flash forward at the end of the second season, each one kind of resetting the core characters’ visions of the future and introducing new characters,” Braga said.

“One of the cool things about the show is you have 5 billion potential storylines.” Braga continued. “And we plan to tell the stories of people all over the world. Obviously they’ll be focused on mainly people here in L.A., but we’re going to go all over the place.”

“The core concept is very much the same as Robert Sawyer’s novel,” Braga says. “That was the impetus for it and the idea of the entire world blacking out at the same time for a discrete amount of time, and everybody on Earth having mysterious visions of the future. Same idea. Obviously, to do a TV show, you have to sustain potentially—and God willing—100 episodes or more; you’ve got to change the concept a little bit. His novel had people having visions of the future 20 years from now. We change that to five months from now and kind of narrowed down the scope a little bit and made it a little bit more of an intimate epic. But essentially the concept is the same.”

Production on the pilot is currently underway.

New details revealed about AMC’s re-imagined The Prisoner

Only truly obsessive sci-fi geeks remember The Prisoner. Patrick McGoohan’s stylish 1967 British series is a cult hit about a man trapped for unknown reasons in a picturesque town called The Village and identified only as Number Six. He can’t figure out why he’s there or how to escape.

American Movie Classics has shot a six-hour miniseries re-imagining of The Prisoner for modern-day audiences. One of the biggest changes in this re-imagining is that Six is now American, played by Jim Caviezel.

"I don’t think it makes any difference," director Nick Hurran said in a press conference Jan. 8 in Universal City, Calif. "It’s a mixed nationality cast. It’s a very global Village. I think we accept that now. We’re so used to a society being of every culture, every race that it would have been quite parochial to go and do a British thing."

Ghostbusters Officially Dated

Finally, the elusive Ghostboasters game has a date nailed down. On June 16, 2008 in North America, Atari says the game will be ready. This happens to coincide with the 25th Anniversary of the original film’s release. The rest of the world outside North America will see the game three days later on June 19, when the worldwide release happens. Click read more for the full info.

Amazing Spider-Man Obama Issue SELL OUT

Many Comic Book stores are already selling out of BOTH COVERS of Amazing Spider-Man #583 — featuring an appearance by President Elect Obama — and and the book doesn’t even come out until Wednesday!

Sam Raimi Wants Morbius in Spider-Man 4

Sam Raimi revealed his pick for the villain for Spider-Man 4 in the latest issue of Empire Magazine.

“I like it in the Marvel comics when Spider-Man fights Morbius,” said Raimi. “He’s really cool. A vampire! I like that combination of superhero plus supernatural.”

As /Film reader Christopher M (who submitted the story) points out, it might make sense to use him along with The Lizard since both characters “use the same technology but have different animals involved in their research… one having blended with a lizard the other a vampire bat.” What do you think?

Crossing streams: Ghostbusters game confirmed for week of June 16

It sounds like everyone is on the same page now about the Ghosbusters game release. Sony Pictures stepped on Atari PR’s toes by revealing the June 16 date, coinciding with the Blu-ray release of the movie. Atari has since confirmed a June 19 date for the UK. Just to make sure everyone is in on the party, VG247 has confirmed with the game’s developer, Terminal Reality, that it’s "always been planning day and date release with the Blu-ray discs."

Terminal Reality chief Mark Randal says "it will be a huge Ghostbusters week!" That may be true, but how the company’s game reviews and sells is a whole other question altogether. Randal also wouldn’t comment if there would be a special edition game/Blu-ray movie box set. We wouldn’t count it out — that would certainly move a couple units.

Fallout 3 Level Cap Going To Thirty

The level cap has been a bit of an issue for Fallout 3 fans, particularly those intent on exploring the Capitol Wastes in their entirety. Thankfully, it looks like Bethesda will be addressing the issue soon.

Speaking with Eurogamer about Fallout 3’s upcoming DLC Operation Anchorage, lead producer Jeff Gardiner also dropped a few details about Broken Steel, the planned third installment. Among them, Gardiner said that the level cap would be going up to thirty.

Bethesda vice president of public relations and marketing Pete Hines had previously said that Bethesda had no plans to raise the level cap, but when asked, Gardiner said, "Pete was talking about the level cap in the game as it was released. Level 20 is plenty tough. But we felt there’s no harm in letting the player enjoy the game as long as they’d like, and so along with removing the game’s "ending" with Broken Steel, we figure raising the level cap would allow them to do that."

Transformers 2 Teaser Poster Unleashed

Turns out that auction on eBay was legit after all. Dreamworks has released the new teaser poster for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen on Yahoo movies.

I’m pretty sure the face on the poster is Jetfire, who (possible spoiler warning) appears in the new movie as a SR-71 Blackbird who was abandoned by the Decepticons, and is ressurected by the Autobots. Could Jetfire be the “Fallen” in the title? So far everything has pointed to the flaming baddy from the Transformers comic books. What do you think?

Michael Bay has commented on the new poster on his website, taking a small swing at Terminator Salvation:

“Okay it’s time to turn up the heat on Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen. We’ve waited low in the weeds letting all the summer movies get their stuff out. We’ve seen the great year end movies, and watched the upcoming clips of the upcoming summer fare. We’ve seen certain movies coming out even try to duplicate Transformer size robots in their ads. Please, come on. Well, I promise you we will rock your world with Transformers 2. The fans wanted ROBOTS KICKING ASS - well we got it. Today we are releasing the teaser poster and soon the onslaught will continue with a steady drum beat until June 26th.”

Windows 7 Open Beta Download

Just a reminder for those who are interested. The open beta download for Windows 7 will be available sometimes today, Friday January 9, 2009, over at the official Win7 site. The new windows comes without some of the standard apps you are used to, and you have to choose which you want to include. It also features the latest version of DirectX, if I am not mistaken. Keep your eyes peeled today, it should be posted any time now.

NXE Primetime Coming This Spring

The New Xbox Experience hit back in November 19, but at least one announced feature was conspiciously absent. Now it’s resurfaced at CES, and may be arriving in homes soon.

Xbox 360 Fanboy is reporting that Robbie Bach showed off Primetime live on stage. Audience members got a look at the game show1 vs. 100, a scheduled program in which one Xbox Live member plays again 100 others with a live host.

According to Microsoft, Primetime will be arriving this Spring. New Xbox Experience users will finally be able to feel complete.
