THING Prequel Gains Director?
After a few years of development from BSG’s Ronald D. Moore, there seems to be some momentum gathering for the upcoming prequel to Carpenter’s The Thing. Maniac JoeyBaloney passed along that the fellow horror fans from over at Bloody-Disgusting report Universal Pictures and Strike Entertainment are in negotiations with Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. to direct the feature film, with the possible director already having a plan on the lead character for this return trip to Antarctica. None other than R. J. Macready’s brother, a connection to Kurt Russell’s original character in the 1982 film.
The only issue from this is that the possible director’s plan doesn’t really match with the rumored plot synopsis leaked a few weeks ago, which has the film told from the Norwegian camp’s point of view.
Brad M. warns to take this strictly as a rumor for now and we could end up learning more about where Mac’s brother comes into play in the story as development continues. It should also be noted though that director Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. has been attached to direct Army of the Dead as well for Strike Entertainment so they do have a working relationship.
Rumored Plot Concept: In the screenplay by Ronald D. Moore, the prequel takes place from the Norwegian camps point of view. An American scientific expedition to the frozen wastes of the Antarctic is interrupted by a group of seemingly mad Norwegians pursuing and shooting a dog.
The helicopter pursuing the dog crashes leaving no explanation for the chase.
During the night, the dog mutates and attacks other dogs in the cage and members of the team that investigate. The team soon realize that an alien life-form with the ability to take over bodies is on the loose and they don’t know who may already have been taken over
