Marvel Studios’ forthcoming Thor and Captain America movies will be presented in post-production-added 3D, their directors officially reveal…

Readers who dislike wearing spectacles in cinemas should probably look away now, as the respective directors of Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger have revealed that both movies will be presented in 3D.

According to the LA Times, the Marvel Studios films will be shot in 2D, and the 3D effect will be added after the fact. Both directors have said, however, that the quality of the post-production will be superior to the low contrast, headache-inducing effort seen in Clash Of The Titans.

"We came to feel that in our case 3D could be the very good friend of story and character for a different kind of experience," Thor director Kenneth Branagh explained. "It’s another draft of the story that can reveal itself in a different way… I had a healthy degree of skepticism up front… I’ve become somebody extremely excited about working with possibilities of doing it this way."

"I think it tends to be overused and can be a little bit gimmicky," continued Captain America‘s director Joe Johnston. "A lot of people are using 3D now because they feel have they have to. When it’s done bad, it can make you carsick."

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, meanwhile has said that "an unprecedented amount of time" would be spent converting the movies to 3D, which certainly tallies with what director Christopher Nolan said about his own experience with post-production 3D, where he suggested that the process could provide effective results given enough time and effort.

Meanwhile, the LA Times also revealed a first look photo of Thor, which depicts Anthony Hopkins standing proudly in his armour as Odin, while Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston pose moodily in the background as Thor and Loki respectively.
