Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has revealed new details about the planned integration of Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel struck a deal with Sony, which has the movie rights to the character, and plans to introduce the new Spider-Man in a Marvel movie, followed by a new Spider-Manfilm released by Sony, co-produced by Feige. The character has been confirmed to be Peter Parker, but little else about the new cinematic Spider-Man has been revealed.
The new take on Spider-Man will focus on Peter Parker’s high school years, Feige told Collider. [E]ven though there’ve been five Spider-Man films, there are so many things from the comics that haven’t been done yet,” he said. “The most obvious being the ‘young, doesn’t quite fit in’ kid before his powers, and then the fella that puts on a mask and swings around and fights bad guys and doesn’t shut up, which is something we want to play with and we’re excited about.” He expects to cast an actor that can play the character as a 15-16-year-old.
The character will also get a different costume in its new incarnation, Feige told Crave Online. “We’ve already designed the costume, which is different than any of the ones that have come before,” he said.
The first appearance of the MCU Spider-Man is expected to be in Captain America 3, which opens May 6, 2016. The Spider-Man film premieres July 28, 2017.
Twentieth Century Fox has announced the writing team of Art Marcum and Matt Holloway for its remake of Alien Nation, according to The Hollywod Reporter.
Marcum and Holloway wrote Iron Man, as well as Punisher: War Zone. The two also have credits on the recent Highlander remake, as well as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Plot information was scarce, but the article said the studio plans a franchise, similar to Planet of the Apes, and the first installment will explain how and why the aliens arrived here on Earth.
Neill Blomkamp will direct a new film in the Alien franchise, according to an Instagram post Wednesday. Blomkamp posted an image by H.R. Giger, who did the designs for the first Alien film, and wrote, “Um… So I think it’s officially my next film. #alien”
The film will be produced by Ridley Scott, and will be set after Prometheus 2, which Scott will produce and direct, according to Deadline.
Blomkamp’s directing career started with the critically acclaimed District 9, which he also co-wrote, and for which he received an Adapted Screenplay Academy Award nomination. He wrote and directed Elysium, and co-wrote and directed Chappie, which will open March 6.
Prometheus was set in the Alien universe, but before the first movie, and the sequel will be in that earlier time frame as well.
