Disney Confirms ‘Space Mountain’ GN

27013Space%20Mountain_LG[1]

Incomplete details were leaked back in August, but now Disney Publishing has confirmed via the disneyandmore blog  plans to release a 176-page graphic novel inspired by the Disneyland attraction Space Mountain.  Space Mountain will be released on May 6, 2014 as the first of a planned trilogy.

Space Mountain will be written by Bryan Q. Miller (Batgirl, Teen Titans, Smallville: Season 11, Spiderman) and illustrated by Kelly Jones (Batman, The Sandman: Dream Country & Season of Mists) and Hi-Fi Design.  The book will be available from Disney Press in both hardcover and paperback editions.

The story is set in the year 2125, described as "story of two kids, a miniature flying saucer and dangerous mission twenty-four hours into a twisted tomorrow."  The young cadets are chosen to join a team of space explorers on a special field trip to journey 24 hours into the future.  Of course, something goes wrong, and the kids must save the day and get back to Space Mountain before the universe is destroyed.

Disney plans to follow up Space Mountain with two other books: Return to Space Mountain in 2015, and Battle for Space Mountain in 2016.  The Space Mountain indoor coaster opened in 1975 in Tomorrowland at Walt Disney World, and is currently the oldest operating roller coaster in Florida.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Movie Review

So how is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire? Simply incredible. From the first second the film begins till the final few minutes you feel like you are on a rough and wild adventure at sea. Normally I would say a roller coaster ride, but some of the scenes in Goblet of Fire are so intense [the dragon!] that the pacing must jump considerably from action to story and back to action again; as if you hit a large wake in your path. The abrupt changes of pacing may throw some moviegoers not familiar with the books off. But don’t worry, the pacing is pretty right on with the story; well, maybe the story on steroids.

Luckily, this minor ‘flaw’ [if you’d call it that] is easily covered up with a photo-realistic dragon, an underwater adventure, and a surprisingly emotional scene by the end of the film. Though some may find the ending a bit anti-climatic, this is how the story of Harry Potter goes and the movie serves as a perfect introduction of what to expect from later films.

Remember, things are going to change. And, if things continue as they have, I cannot wait to see what Steve Kloves and friends have in store for us next. For now, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire has earned itself a second viewing.CanMag
