This April, witness the beautifully violent return of one of the Marvel Universe’s deadliest assassins in ELEKTRA #1 – from critically acclaimed creators Haden Blackman and Mike Del Mundo!
A life spent in silent pain has led Elektra Natchios to the brink of despair. But as the crimson-clad assassin prepares to shed her blood-soaked past and take the next step, everything you know about her will change in an instant! Death is no escape, but she will find her way as a new option opens up that will take Elektra to places no other hero will go!
“If anything, we’ll be putting Elektra into even more precarious situations,” says writer Haden Blackman in an interview with Marvel.com. “Not only will she be risking her life, but it’s finally her life; she’s no longer answering to anyone and is now striking out on her own to figure out who she is and what she wants, so she has even more to lose than ever before.”
Deadly threats and lethal foes await around every turn. But they will discover that none are quite as dangerous as Elektra herself. The next stage in the life of the most dangerous assassin in the Marvel Universe begins this April in ELEKTRA #1!
Continuing a run of creative defections from DC after conflicts over editorial decisions, J.H. Williams III and W. Haden Blackman are leaving Batwoman after #26. The move was announced by identical posts on the creators’ Websites titled "With a Heavy Heart…" (Williams) and "Heartbroken" (Blackman).
The post details how the team planned storylines many issues in advance (five story arcs at the outset), and were following those plans but last-minute changes demanded by their editor left them "frustrated and angry."
"Unfortunately, in recent months, DC has asked us to alter or completely discard many long-standing storylines in ways that we feel compromise the character and the series," they wrote. "We were told to ditch plans for Killer Croc’s origins; forced to drastically alter the original ending of our current arc, which would have defined Batwoman’s heroic future in bold new ways; and, most crushingly, prohibited from ever showing Kate and Maggie actually getting married. All of these editorial decisions came at the last minute, and always after a year or more of planning and plotting on our end."
They called Batwoman "a dream project for both of us" and are clearly unhappy at leaving the book, but feel they must. "We can’t reliably do our best work if our plans are scrapped at the last minute, so we’re stepping aside," they wrote.
The final books have been announced for the September relaunch of the DC superhero books. We’ve collected the data, and placed it in a nice table for you to check out.
LucasArts has some big downloadable content plans for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, as they’ve revealed to Kotaku that they’ll soon release a new campaign level and four new character skins for the popular Star Wars title. Pricing and availability details haven’t been set, but the DLC pack will, naturally, be made available for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
The new character models include Luke Skywalker (pictured), Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ki-Adi-Mundi (aka this guy, for non-Star Wars fans), and Kit Fisto (aka this, uh, thing, for non-Star Wars fans). These characters were partly chosen "based on what we heard from fans," according to executive producer Haden Blackman. "But some were from us. We thought Ki-Adi-Mundi or Kit Fisto would be exciting to see running around in our game," he explained.
The new level will be set in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, where Darth Vader’s Secret Apprentice will travel to in order to try and learn more about his father. The level will reportedly be smaller than the Raxis Prime level in the game, but bigger than Cloud City, and it’s one of about eight levels cut from the game. "We had a list of 20 locations in our exploration phase," Blackman said. "Those got whittled down. Which ones were viable and which weren’t. The temple hung on and hung on and hung on. We had to make cuts right before production and it was one of those."
At a recent press event held by LucasArts, producer Haden Blackman disclosed new details on the current state of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, as well as new information about future additions to the game. As Blackman mentioned, players have already discovered how to unlock a “force-sensitive” character slot–a character that may eventually become a jedi–by collecting holocrons, special items derived from quests that give clues about what tasks they must perform in order to advance in their quest.
Blackman reaffirmed that the development team fully intends to continue supporting the game with monthly story-related events and content additions, such as “the warren,” a recently released dungeon area that characters of all affiliations (rebels, imperials, and neutral characters) can explore. Blackman explained that the team will also continue to develop the game by adding new “theme parks”–a phrase that the team uses to describe hub areas full of important non-player characters that give out information and quests. The next theme park scheduled for release will be Nym’s fortress–an area controlled by the protagonist of LucasArts’ Nintendo 64 shooter Star Wars: Starfighter. Blackman also mentioned that the team is currently working on two new major content additions: playable dark jedi characters, who can explore the dark side of the Force, and player mounts, such as dewbacks and kadu, which can be ridden for additional travel speed. These two additions are scheduled for release in the game by year’s end, and the next major addition to the game, player vehicles, should, according to Blackman, “follow shortly thereafter.” When asked about the status of possible console versions of Star Wars Galaxies, Blackman stated that console versions of the game are not currently in development, but “haven’t been ruled out” yet.
