With the release of its March solicitations, DC has revealed that it will cancel 13 titles this spring, shipping the last issues in March before the two-month Convergence event that will cover the period of DC’s move to California. That removes a quarter of the DC Universe titles, clearing the decks for a major retooling of the line when the regular DCU titles return in June.
The titles represent a surprisingly wide range of sales, from Star Spangled War Stories Featuring G.I. Zombie, which sold only 7,546 copies in November, to Green Lantern Corps, which sold 34,109. The thirteen titles, with their November sell-in numbers to comic stores are:
34,109 Green Lantern Corps
30,907 Arkham Manor
25,654 Red Lanterns
21,377 Secret Origins
19,709 World’s Finest
16,840 Swamp Thing
15,859 Aquaman and the Others
15,681 Green Lantern: New Guardians
15,097 Trinity of Sin
9,350 Infinity Man and the Forever People
7,546 Star-Spangled War Stories Featuring G.I. Zombie

20th Century Fox Moving Forward with Deadpool Targeting 2016 Release, The Fantastic Four and Assassin’s Creed Delayed
Just a few hours after star Ryan Reynolds opened up about the reaction to the Deadpool leaked footage, 20th Century Fox has announced they are moving forward with the film and given it a February 12, 2016 release date, just three months before the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse. Ryan Reynolds is expected to star with director Tim Miller at the helm and a script by Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
In addition, Fox has shuffled a few more release dates, moving the Michael Fassbender starring Assassin’s Creed from its August 7, 2015 and is now without a release date at all. The upcoming reboot of The Fantastic Four from Josh Trank and starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell, and Michael B. Jordan, has also moved from its June 19, 2015 release to the just vacated August 7.
Despite saying just two weeks ago that he couldn’t decide between playing the titular Shazam or his arch-enemy Black Adam, actor Dwayne Johnson took to Twitter today to announce that he will be playing Black Adam in the upcoming film. No further details are known about the film however, including writer, director, or a release date, but check back here for more on the film as we learn it.
Originally Teth-Adam of Kahndaq, the character first appeared in Marvel Family #1 in 1945 and has gone on to be both a villain and an anti-hero throughout his history. The character has powers comparable to that of Shazam, including flight, strength, agility, lightning manipulation, as well as magic.
Johnson has been in talks to star in a DC film for many years at this point, and earlier this year hinted that Black Adam was one of his favorite characters. A rumor back in June pointed toward a Shazam film opening in 2016 along with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and though there is a DC-based film set for release August 5 of that year, it hasn’t been confirmed as being Shazam.
